Pre-Production Forms

Image
The production of a media product will require permission from a number sources in order to be successful.  Without this permission, legal issues could arise that will cost money and even prevent the product from being completed.  Gaining permission will require the use of a variety of forms that can be given to the people involved. The forms that will be needed include: • Individual release form  – Personnel working for a media production company will need to sign over the rights to their work as part of either their contract or as a separate document.  When an individual produces an item, they may need to release the intellectual property rights to that work. • Consent form  – when recording in a location where there are members of the public, permission will be needed from individuals involved, allowing their images or voice to be used.  This is also true when using actors; they need to give their consent for their image and/or voice ...

Target Audience

Target Audience -  a group of people defined by certain demographics and  behaviour Socio-economic (NRS) It is a way of describing people based on their education, income, and type of job.  Socioeconomic status is usually described as low, medium, and high. People with a lower socioeconomic status usually have less access to financial, educational, social, and health resources than those with a higher socioeconomic status. The term "socioeconomic target audience" describes a particular set of people who a company or organisation wants to connect with and benefit from their socioeconomic level. This can include things like earnings, education, employment, and location. For instance, while a bargain retailer may target a lower-income clientele, a luxury vehicle manufacturer may do so. Understanding the socioeconomic makeup of the target market is crucial when creating a marketing strategy. With the aid of this data, a company may design goods, services, and marketin...

SWOT Analysis

Shoe Brief SWOT Strengths : Minimum of four clips is low, gives a lot of room to work with what is shot Weaknesses : 8-14 is a big age group. A lot changes between those ages. High-end = expensive, limits the audience. No specific gender = wider audience to cater for. Opportunities : Because it's designer footwear, the opportunity to liaise with high-end retail. Brand can afford rights to license music, and could provide an opportunity to liaise with a large record label. Threats : Crowded market, lots of competition. Working with young actors in an urban environment is dangerous due to things like traffic.

Mood Boards

Image
Why Make a Mood Board? Allows team and client to explore and make judgements about the overall aesthetic (the 'look' and 'sound' of the product) Good judgements at this phase can help the product to appeal to its target audience and to connect to, or stand out from, competitor products (e.g. a luxury advert that gas a recognisable 'luxury car advert' feeling in its choice of imagery and text; a website for a new bar that 'feels' more quirky and characterful than those for others in the same town)

Mind Maps

Image
Why Mind Map? Allows for the development if ideas Can begin to explore which ideas are most fruitful - which open up constructive possibilities and which don't Can begin to explore various ways of developing ideas Can identify ways that ideas might connect and combine

Tools to use

Blue-sky thinking - a group of individuals get together with an empty piece of paper or a whiteboard. Having read the brief, any thoughts, words and colours are written down. No ideas are discounted or criticised at this stage.  Mind Map - a document used during the initial phase of planning, where thoughts and ideas can be linked together and ideas can be linked off a central hub. Mood board - a collection of images, materials, words, fonts and objects used to create a 'feel' for the project. This is used to show possible colour schemes for a project. SWOT Analysis  stands for 'Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities and Threats'. Using these four headings you can reduce your initial ideas down to one idea that you can take forward.

Legal and Ethical

Image
Legal issue –  something identified within the project that could potentially lead to breaking the law if not addressed.  For example, a risk assessment is required for any  filming.
